Island's Temperature
View Island's Temperature Gallery I had never imagined that my immigration experience would involve moving from one island – Taiwan – to another – Vancouver Island. Every time I wish to taste delicacies from my home country, I even have to take the ferry to Vancouver to get them. Whenever I am on the ferry and see all the different Gulf Islands: Pender Island, Mayne Island, etc., I begin to think about how my life seems to be about shuttling among various islands. Therefore, I picked up my paintbrush to depict my feelings about islands as a record of my life.
Salmon Run
View Salmon Run Gallery Visiting the Goldstream Provincial Park every fall to see the salmon run has become a ritual. It is something I do a few times each year. From the vitality and perseverance in October to the death and decay in December, everything touches my heart tremendously.

What is the driving force behind their relentless striving? Is it an unexplainable nostalgia for their birth place or the hope for a better life for future generations? As a mother, I attempt to portray the moment of the spawning to express my sincere wishes for the next generation’s better future.
Inspiration
View Inspiration Gallery What I have been attempting to convey is my sentiment when I look with an immigrant’s eyes – at this land on which I will eventually grow old. Whether it is peaceful contentment or endless striving among the mundane depends entirely on my state of mind at any given time. All I have done here is merely to paint what I think and how I feel.
Andante
View Andante Gallery When the Eastern eye meets the Western landscape, what kinds of responses are there? Whether it becomes beautiful or not depends very much upon my perception and state of mind.
Distance
View Distance Gallery I want to use my paint brush, which I can see and feel, to describe the intangible relationships between different people and people and their surroundings
Migration
View Migration Gallery Every time I see migratory birds flying across the sky I think of the busyness at the Vancouver International Airport. Migratory birds move according to the changes of seasons to find their food and a place to stay. How about us immigrants? Is it for better quality of life or a better education environment for our children? The common ground between migratory birds and immigrants is that they travel long distances for their next generations. Is this a call of instinct or an involuntary expectation for a better future for the next generation?
Contemporary Chinese Painting
View Contemporary Chinese Painting Gallery I like to use Chinese black ink to express my colourful life in Victoria- ink in Chinese painting is considered “colour” and has different shades and tones. The very simple ink is used to express a sense of moral uprightness or a life of seclusion, whereas the flourishing colours represent the busy pace of the mundane life. Therefore, I have chosen to use this traditional concept combined with modern technique to convey the possibilities of the two contrasting and complementing each other.
Character
View Character Gallery "The pain and conflict of learning English" – A long time ago, during the turn of the century, a literary icon from China was studying at Cambridge University and his wife came from China to join him. Unfortunately for her, her husband spent more time studying than with her. She felt helpless and lonely because of her inability to speak English. Everyday when she fed the chickens in the backyard, she asked them, “Do you speak Chinese?” Similarly, whenever I feed the ducks at Beacon Hill Park, I ask them, "Do you speak Taiwanese?"
